Is Kingdom Rush 6 worth it?

It depends on where you play. On Steam the reviews are Mixed: 64% of 1,989 are positive. On the App Store it averages 4.9 out of 5 from 819 ratings. The two audiences are reacting to different things.

What players like

  • The heroes and towers, which are the most talked-about thing in positive reviews.
  • Classic Rush, the mode that replays the campaign with the first game’s towers. Long-time players single it out.
  • Stage design: each stage has its own gimmick and set pieces to use, which the stage pages list.
  • The art, which even negative reviews go out of their way to praise.

What they complain about

  • Levelling. Heroes and spells level separately and slowly, and finishing the campaign does not max them. The XP planner shows how far each one is.
  • Balance. Some stages jump sharply in difficulty, and some unlockable towers feel weaker than the ones you start with.
  • Launch bugs, including crashes and a hero drag line that sticks; Ironhide posted workarounds on day one.

Ironhide’s first post after launch said the next updates would be bug fixes, and that it was reading reviews about fights that feel unfair rather than challenging.

Is it just a replay of the old games?

No, though it goes back to them on purpose. Genesis is a prequel: the story sends you back in time to the early days of the first game’s kingdom, so the lands and several heroes are familiar. The 15 towers, the 18 stages and the hero and spell trees are new. The first game’s towers only appear in Classic Rush, an optional mode.

Steam or mobile?

Steam is $19.99 with everything unlocked by play; mobile is $6.99 with some heroes, towers and spells sold separately. The price page has the details.
