Kingdom Rush 6 crashing on PC
If the game closes at start or in the middle of a stage, switch to the open_beta branch first, and if it still crashes, send Ironhide the details. Back up your save before you start.
Switch to the open_beta branch
The beta branch carries an engine update made to fix these crashes. In your Steam library:
- Right-click the game and choose Properties.
- Open Game Versions & Betas.
- Pick
open_beta, close the window, and let Steam download the update. - Launch the game.
To go back later, pick None in the same list.
Send the crash report
When the game crashes to a blue screen, it writes a file named
crash_DATE_TIME.txtinto the same folder as your saves (below). Email it, one file per crash if there are several, to support@ironhidegames.com with your operating system and what you were doing when it closed: which stage or screen, and whether it happens every time. If it simply drops to the desktop with no crash screen, send the same details without the file.
Where your saves are, and how to back them up
Saves are files named slot_1.lua, slot_2.lua and so on, one per save slot, in the game’s folder. Copy them somewhere safe before switching branches or deleting settings; copying them back restores the slot.
| System | Folder |
|---|---|
| Windows | C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\kingdom_rush_genesis |
| Mac (Steam) | ~/Library/Application Support/kingdom_rush_genesis |
On Steam the saves are also kept in Steam Cloud, so a new PC or Mac picks them up when you sign in. The same folder holds settings.lua and global.lua, the two files to delete when the game opens at the wrong resolution.
Not a crash, but close
- Everything moves in slow motion. Options, page 5: set FPS to 30 or turn off VSYNC. A monitor running at 30 Hz causes it too.
- Steam says the executable is missing, or asks for a CD key. Restart the Steam client.
- The screen resolution is wrong. Hold left Alt (Option on Mac) while the splash screen plays to open the resolution window.
The rest of the launch problems and their answers are in the FAQ; new patches show up on patches and news.
